Big Falls in Forest Falls, California
Slow down. Look closer. Reflect.
Welcome to Big Falls in Forest Falls, where the landscape seems to transform the longer you stay. Water moves through towering rock, the last sunlight catches the canyon walls, and as daylight disappears, the moon begins to rise behind the trees.
These photographs were created across that transition, following Big Falls from daylight into darkness. What begins with rushing water and sunlit rock slowly becomes silhouettes, moonlight, and details in the night sky that are easy to miss when we're already on our way home.
This week's Look Closer experience is an invitation to stay a little longer. As you explore these photographs, notice how the same landscape changes with light. Look at the textures carved into the canyon, the small patches of life growing from rock, the final warmth of the sun, the details on the moon's surface, and the trees that slowly move across our view of it.
Sometimes seeing more isn't about going somewhere new.
Sometimes it's about staying long enough to watch something familiar become completely different.
Take a slow breath.
Give your eyes time to wander.
Let's begin.
How many shades of yellow can you find?
What textures can you imagine touching?
Take a deep breath before continuing.
What happens when you stop seeing rushing water and begin noticing each individual drop?
Water never holds the same shape for long. What shapes can you find in this single moment?
Follow the water with your eyes. Where does your attention naturally want to go?
Two paths. One destination. Take a slow deep breath.
Can you trace the water from the top of the canyon to the bottom?
Something delicate has been built among the flowers. Can you find the tiny threads connecting one part to another?
At first you may see flowers. Stay a little longer. How many layers of another tiny world can you find?
What else is growing here?
Let your eyes travel from the top of the waterfall to the bottom. How many places does the water change along the way?
The waterfall is in the background this time. What did your eyes notice first instead?
Before looking at the waterfall, notice everything surrounding it. How many different colors can you find in the rock?
The waterfall is in the background this time. What did your eyes notice first instead?
Isn't the moon beautiful?
Notice how the branches change the photograph without hiding the moon.
Where is the last sunlight touching the canyon? Follow the light with your eyes.
Can you find the places where sunlight and shadow meet?
The light is almost gone. What details become easier to notice when the brightest part of a scene disappears?
The moon may look smooth from far away. How many craters can you find when you give yourself time to really study it?
A single branch has entered the frame. Did it change where your eyes went first?
How many individual tree silhouettes can you find against the moon?
Notice where Earth appears to meet the moon. For a moment, two completely different landscapes seem to become one.
Which do you notice first now: the moon or the trees?
Take a deep breath
Part of the moon has disappeared behind the forest. Do you focus more on what you can see or what you can no longer see?
Find the tallest tree.
The moon hasn't changed, but the view has. How much can perspective change what we see?
How many trees do you see?
Find the spaces between the branches where moonlight still comes through.
⨠Before You Leave...
Did you...

ā” Did you count the different colors in the rocks?
ā” Did you follow the water from top to bottom?
ā” Did you notice where the sunlight met the shadows?
ā” Did you find the tallest tree against the moon?
ā” Did you notice the moon slowly disappearing behind the trees?
ā” Did you find a shape in the moving water?
ā” Did you take at least one slow, deep breath?
ā” Did you notice something you would have normally walked past?
Every week I head into nature with my camera, never knowing exactly what I'll find.
Sometimes it's wildlife.
Sometimes it's a waterfall.
Sometimes it's something hidden in plain sight.
Thank you for slowing down and exploring with me today.
I'll see you on the next trail.
The world has always been beautiful. Thank you for taking a moment to notice it.
If one of these places spoke to you, you can bring it home.
We Matter is a reminder that we are not separate from the natural world. We belong to it. Just as water leaves its mark on stone, our presence leaves its mark on the world and on one another.
Sometimes we search for reassurance that we are loved, that we belong, that our existence means something.
And sometimes, when we slow down and look closer, the Earth seems to answer.
You are here. You belong. You matter. We matter.

Still Moving captures water quietly finding its way through a vast landscape of stone. From a distance, it could almost be missed, yet it continues to move, following its path through every opening the mountain gives it.
Healing can look like this too. Sometimes growth is powerful and obvious. Other times, it is a small movement forward that no one else can see.
You do not have to move quickly for your movement to matter.
As long as you are still moving, you are still becoming.

Perspective captures the moon appearing almost within the treetops, transforming something unimaginably distant into something that feels close enough to touch. It is a quiet reminder that what feels overwhelming, impossible, or far away can shift when we allow ourselves to see it differently.
We cannot always change what is in front of us, but we can change the way we meet it.
Sometimes healing begins not with a different life, but with a different view.
This metal print is perfect for therapy and counseling spaces, wellness centers, offices, meditation spaces, bedrooms, or homes where a gentle reminder of reflection, growth, and perspective can become part of the environment.

Closer Than You Think captures the moon rising behind the silhouettes of the trees, bringing two seemingly distant worlds into one quiet frame. Earth and sky appear to touch, reminding us that distance can look very different when we change our perspective.
Healing can feel this way too. So can growth, peace, and the life we are working toward. We may not always recognize how far we have come because we are still looking toward where we want to go.
Sometimes, what we have been reaching for is closer than we think.
This metal print is perfect for therapy and counseling spaces, wellness centers, offices, bedrooms, meditation spaces, or homes where a gentle reminder of hope, perspective, and possibility can become part of the environment.
